Eligibility Criteria & Experience

1. Legal Officer (DGCA)

  • Educational Qualification: A recognized Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a reputable university.
  • Experience Required: Minimum 03 years of experience in the field of active legal practice.
  • Desirable Qualification: At least one year of practice dealing specifically with aviation matters (such as leasing of aircraft, aviation liability regimes, or the acquisition and merger of airlines).
  • Age Limit (UR): Maximum 35 years. (Age is relaxable up to 38 years for OBC, 40 years for SC/ST, and an additional 10 years for PwBD).
  • Core Duties: Drafting and proposing modifications to the Aircraft Act, 1934 and the Aircraft Rules, 1937; examining general civil aviation legal cases, vetting legal affidavits, filing court complaints, and processing provisions of International aviation law for adoption into Indian legislation.

2. Company Prosecutor (Ministry of Corporate Affairs)

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) OR an Integrated Degree in Law from a recognized university or institution.
  • Experience Required: Fresh law graduates are eligible to apply (no mandatory prior practice tenure is listed as an essential metric).
  • Age Limit (UR): Maximum 30 years. (Age is relaxable up to 33 years for OBC, 35 years for SC/ST, and an additional 10 years for PwBD).
  • Core Duties: Carrying out specialized prosecution work on behalf of the government against defaulting corporate entities across various courts and tribunals (such as the NCLT/NCLAT) nationwide.

Selection Process

  • Shortlisting Criteria: In the event that a large volume of applications is received, UPSC reserves the right to restrict the candidate pool via a structured Recruitment Test (RT) or by elevating screening parameters based on higher qualifications/experience.
  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates will undergo a final Personal Interview (weighted out of 100 marks). The category-wise minimum qualifying benchmarks for the interview stage are: UR-50, OBC-45, and SC/ST/PH-40 marks.

How to Apply for UPSC Legal Recruitment 2026

All applications must be submitted digitally via the Commission’s web portal.

  1. Go to the official UPSC Online Recruitment Application (ORA) platform: [https://upsconline.nic.in/ora/](https://upsconline.nic.in/ora/).
  2. Create or log in to your One-Time Registration (OTR) profile to generate your unique Universal Registration Number (URN).
  3. Select Advertisement No. 07/2026 and choose the specific post you are targeting—Legal Officer or Company Prosecutor.
  4. Fill out the Common Application Form (CAF) completely and clear the mandatory live photo capture module.
  5. Upload self-attested PDF copies of your Matriculation certificate (as age proof), LL.B. degree transcripts, Bar Council enrollment, and experience letters (where applicable).
