Sambalpur University, Odisha, has released a comprehensive notification for the engagement of Guest Faculty (Assistant Professor level) on a contractual basis for the upcoming 2026-27 academic session.
Out of the 117 total vacancies announced across various departments, the University has allocated 09 dedicated posts for the legal discipline. Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility for these Guest Faculty roles is strictly governed by the UGC Guidelines 2018:
- Educational Qualification: A Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M.) with a good academic record.
- Preferred Qualifications: Candidates holding a Ph.D. in Law or who have cleared the UGC NET will be given clear preference.
- (Note: In the event of the non-availability of Ph.D./NET-qualified candidates, LL.M. postgraduates with a strong academic background will be considered).
- Age Limit: There is no strict upper age limit for entry. Retired faculty members are also highly encouraged to apply and can continue their engagement up to the age of 70 years.
Remuneration Structure
The Guest Faculty will be compensated on a per-class/lecture basis, subject to a monthly cap:
- For Ph.D. Holders: ₹1,000/- per class
- For Non-Ph.D. Holders (LL.M./NET): ₹750/- per class
- Maximum Limit: Faculty can take a maximum of 60 classes per month (leading to a maximum monthly payout of ₹60,000 or ₹45,000 respectively).
Selection Process & Marking Scheme
Sambalpur University will evaluate candidates through a structured 100-mark assessment during the walk-in interview:
- General Career Assessment: 30 Marks
- Research Degree (Ph.D./M.Phil): 20 Marks
- Research Publications: 15 Marks
- Demo Class (Teaching Skill): 15 Marks
- Viva-Voce (Interview): 20 Marks

There is no prior online application or fee required. Candidates must participate directly in the Walk-In Interview.
